With players coming and going over the last two days, the Seattle Storm’s coaching staff has been busy with the task of working toward a final roster for the 2011 season. The net result after the Storm signed point guard Sharnee Zoll as a free agent and waived guards Lauren Prochaska and Courtney Ward and forward Bridgette Mitchell is that 13 players remain in camp. The Storm must be down to 11 by the end of next week.
“It’s clearing up,” said Storm Head Coach Brian Agler. “I don’t know when we’ll make those decisions. We’re still sort of open to people on the outside who might come in and take that last spot or two.”
Zoll completed a physical and was signed Monday morning, too late to practice with the team. She arrived just at the end of the Storm’s session and spent time afterwards with Assistant Coach Jenny Boucek cramming to get up to speed on the offense and defense.
“She’s a veteran player, been overseas for a period of time,” said Agler. “We’re just looking for someone who can come in to practice and give us some depth at the point guard position.”
SMITH JOINS TWITTER
The ranks of Storm players on Twitter grew over the weekend when newcomer Katie Smith signed up for an account, @KatieSmith30.
“I just kind of decided that I should get one to follow people, see what’s going on, and also to pub and put things out there,” explained Smith. “I’m not one to be on there nonstop telling about my day, but I do think it is a way – just like Facebook – to let people know if you have something coming up or be in the know and keep up on people.”
