Katie Smith has accomplished so much that she doesn’t have a whole lot of firsts left in her career, but Saturday provided one. Before the Seattle Mariners defeated the New York Yankees in extra innings, Smith threw out the first pitch, something she’d never done previously. By all accounts, Smith delivered a strike to catcher Chris Gimenez. Smith joined Sue Bird (twice), Swin Cash, Lauren Jackson (three times) and Head Coach Brian Agler as Storm representatives who have thrown out the first pitch for the Mariners.
Here are some more photos of Smith’s experience at Safeco Field.

The Storm welcomed veteran guard Katie Smith back to the practice court Tuesday afternoon for the team’s first session since Sunday’s preseason win over the Tulsa Shock. Smith, who has missed both of the Storm’s preseason games due to tendinitis in her left Achilles, said she was “feeling it out” as she did some shooting and went through the team’s dummy offense at half speed.
