This figures to be a quiet week for Storm news, what with all but one player overseas off for the holidays. The WCBA is still in action, and Swin Cash’s DongGuan New Century Club team suffered its first loss on Dec. 21. Cash also announced last week that she will be blogging for SlamOnline.com as part of Slam’s terrific WNBA coverage. Here’s the link to Cash’s first entry.
The WNBA.com Amazing Photo of the Year bracket presented by HP has moved into the quarterfinals, with the Storm represented by four of the eight remaining photos. Be sure to vote this week for Lauren Jackson and Candace Parker tipping off the Sunset Showdown as well as LJ and Sue Bird celebrating the Storm’s victory in Phoenix.
Speaking of voting, you can still support Svetlana Abrosimova for FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the Year and Cash for Seattle Professional Sports Star of the Year. The Euroleague has also begun voting for this year’s All-Star Game with Jackson on the ballot. We’ll see whether Bird makes an appearance when she begins playing for Spartak Moscow Region in the new year.
One honor the Storm was up for has been announced. Former Minnesota Lynx Head Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio, now coaching the Duquesne women, beat out Tanisha Wright for the Dapper Dan Sportswoman of the Year award in Wright’s native Pittsburgh.
MSNBC.com highlights Brian Agler about to get doused with champagne as a top photo that did not make its Best of 2010 slideshow. The look on Coach Agler’s face in this shot is priceless.
