Storm to Wear New Jerseys in 2011

Posted on Thursday, April 7th, 2011 at 4:12 pm by Kevin Pelton

adidas announced today a new uniform system for the WNBA that will result in redesigned jerseys for every team in the league in time for the upcoming season. The biggest changes are in the fit and weight of the jerseys, which are 30 percent lighter than their predecessors and dry twice as fast. The NBA introduced similar adidas jerseys this season, but the WNBA’s jerseys were designed specifically for the women wearing them.

Storm fans will also notice a slightly different look to the team’s uniforms this season (as shown above). They’ll still sport the Bing logo, but the primary Storm logo has replaced the bug logo that appeared on the right sleeve last year. Numbers on both home and jerseys are now red with yellow trim. The sides of the jerseys have also been redesigned with green trim instead of the red and yellow design on home jerseys last season. The road jerseys are green with red trim and  yellow as an accent color.

The last time the Storm jerseys were redesigned from top to bottom in 2007, StormBasketball.com took a look at the history of the team’s uniforms.

Like the jersey style, would prefer the STORM logo be front and center and the bing to be on the shoulder! Can’t wait to see the road jerseys as green is my fav color! GO STORM!

  2. Cindy says:

    HAH! AWESOME!!! Niiice… use Lauren’s

  3. Tannim says:

They look very similar to the jerseys they give my grade school girls when they go to basketball camp. I think they’re amateurish. Sorry, not a fan of the new jerseys.

  4. Jen says:

Meh.. not really a fan of these. I think they look kind of lame…

  5. Fitzychick says:

I suppose they will grow on me. One good thing off the bat is the change of typeface for the numbers. Hated the old numbers!

Are we the Seattle BING or the Seattle Storm??? Swap the BING from the center of the chest with the Storm logo on the left shoulder. I see the (financial) need for sponsors, but don’t think that it should dominate and/or replace the team’s name or logo.

  7. Beth says:

Not a fan at all. I agree with previous post about how amature they look. Doesn’t look at all like a pro team. I also would rather see Storm logo on front than the Bing.

  8. Kendal says:

I’m done buying jersey’s, they change too much. I mostly go for things with the storm logo. I’m all for Bing supporting us, but money is tighter then ever. Buying season tickets is how we support the team.

  9. Meredith says:

I’m thinking I’ll have to reserve final judgment til I see them in action. Right now they still seem to have a practice jersey feel to me. Although, at least the bing logo is better than the Farmers logo.

  10. MarinaE says:

I agree. The Storm logo is the smallest (even smaller than the Adidas logo). Storm should be the LARGEST, NOT bing. I do like the look of the front of the jersey otherwise.

  11. PaTan says:

I strongly agree ! Storm logo big not Bing ! we all know bing has the money. lol We are the Storm not the Bing ! the Bing that big on the front looks stupid.

  12. norwester says:

I’d at least like to see a repeat of the Storm logo on the back, for some additional branding. These look a lot better than a lot of the other uniforms. I hope that the cut and material will make them more comfortable for the players, but I agree that they’re kind of bland, league-wide, and have taken a lot of the individuality away from the teams.

    Not winning, Adidas.

  13. Dan ZC says:

    AWESOME.
Yeeeeah, Id prefer the STORM on front and the BING somewhere else, but what the heck! The sponsor is the sponsor. :P

    Go Storm!! 2011 Champs!

    Btw, HI EVERYONE!

  14. DEE says:

I agree I think having Bing across the chest is a blow to the face of womens basketball I know its about making money but have Storm logo is a thing of pride that i believe has been taken away.

  15. Malibu Rog says:

Really BAD!! When did our Team get renamed Bing?
I know they need the money and I have actually started using Bing….
but this is so RIDICULE-US. 2 thumbs down.

  16. Air 95 says:

These look good, but the traditional storm logo on the front would be better than bing!

  17. Tannim says:

I took a second look at the jersey. It looks like a screen-printed wife-beater, with that ribbing. The Bing logo front and center really enhances the amateur look, but I noticed something on the back. Is the Storm secretly backed by Marlboro? The back of the jersey looks conspicuously like a pack of Marlboro Menthol. I would love to see the team go back to the 2003 jerseys.

  18. Joseph says:

    Away jersey > home jersey

  19. stlkr23 says:

I really don’t like the font used for the numbers … I like the old Storm font …

as for the BING … for a million bucks – I’ll gladly let BING be front and center … it’s a marketing thing and as long as we are getting the $$ I can live with it … I just wish the replica jerseys weren’t branded this way also – as I’m sorry but I’m not buying BING branded merchandise … there I would like things more team centric …

  20. Kritti J says:

I agree with most people on here….the Bing logo needs to be smaller and enlarge the storm logo….and also we need something on the back, they are looking very High School like. Anyone know where an Aussie can buy a 2010 Storm Jersey? They don’t sell WNBA stuff over here :(

  21. Susan says:

Next go around, will the tiny Storm logo will go away, making us the Bing???

  22. Craig Montgomery says:

Having Bing as a jersey sponsor helps keep the Storm alive and financially viable. I’m all for it! It could be a lot worse.

  23. David Brown says:

Why the heck does the BING name have to be so damn big? I know it was last year, too, but it’s really annoying. You can’t even see the team name, which is just wrong, but Bing is as big as the player’s name. No advertiser should get that much space so that the team name can’t even show up. That’s a sellout or just a bad negotiation with Microsoft. The uniforms do not look good. I agree with Ridicule-Us!

  24. b says:

BING stands for Believe In Next Generation. I for one like it, and they will only sponsor our teams right here! That speaks volumes to me and shows their faith in, and comittment to the storm.
